If you have Central Air: As the temperatures rise, your central unit can only do so much. Simply put, it means you should never set your thermostat for a temperature more than 20 degrees cooler than the outside air. Why not? Most air conditioning systems can only handle a 20-degree difference between the outside and inside air temperatures. Some things you can do to help keep your home cooler: Keep all blinds closed, use fans to help circulate the air, make sure to keep your air filter changed (every 30 days), keep outside unit free of dust and debris and make sure your batteries are changed in your thermostat. If your filter is dirty and it causes your unit to freeze, you will need to replace the filter and leave the unit off until the outside lines have thawed out.
